Additional Property Attributes

The site is a historical high school, which has been vacant for approximately 10 years. The site is comprised of several derelict buildings associated with the high school and greenspace. The buildings onsite are in a state of disrepair due to extended vacancy. Based on the age and condition of the buildings onsite, lead-based paint and asbestos in building materials are a concern. The Town of Wisner requested a Phase I ESA under LDEQ's TBA Program for liability protection purposes and to be considered for further funding if environmental cleanup is required. The Phase I ESA was completed in February 2024, and potential petroleum contamination associated with a historical filling station on a surrounding property was identified as a REC. Additionally, potential ACM and LBP in structures on site were identified as a concern based on age and condition of the structures. Further assessment was recommended. The Phase I ESA can be viewed here: https://edms.deq.louisiana.gov/app/doc/view?doc14189295

The site has been vacant and in disrepair for over 10 years. Reuse plans include a community or activity center.
