Additional Property Attributes

The Site reportedly operated as a rendering transfer station from the early 1950s through the mid-1980s, after which the Site has been vacant and is now currently predominantly undeveloped, wooded land with remnants of former structures remaining in the central, southern portion of the Site. A 2016 Phase I ESA of the Site identified the following REC:
REC-1: Elevated levels of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) and lead in on-site soils identified in a 1995 Phase II ESA report.

The 1995 Phase II ESA sampling was focused on a former drum area and former burn area, both located near the former rendering transfer station building. Further, characterization of the TPH samples indicated that the TPH concentrations from the former burn area were primarily comprised of fatty acids and lipid compounds and the TPH concentrations from the former drum area were primarily comprised of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

A 2024 limited Phase II ESA determined that the TPH concentrations were comprised of animal fats and not petroleum compounds; no additional lead was identified; and one PAH was identified above residential but below commercial standards in soil. Elevated metals were detected in groundwater.

A 2024 Phase I ESA identified three additional RECs: suspect underground storage tank (UST) vent pipe, former adjacent landfill, and drum/debris pile onsite.

A 2024 Supplemental Phase II ESA verified the presence of two USTs. No elevated contaminants were identified by this assessment. Recommendations include removal of lead-impacted soil (as identified by a 1995 Phase II ESA) and removal of the USTs in accordance with regulations.
