Additional Property Attributes

MT DEQ performed assessment work at the Berg Lumber Mill Site. The extent and magnitude of contamination has been defined and cleanup options and costs were provided. Potential purchasers now have the information needed to address the site. The bankruptcy trustee has some funds available for cleanup. After the property is cleaned up, a portion of the property will be donated to the City of Lewistown to be used as a public fishing access.

Former Use: George Berg owned and operated Berg Lumber Mill from 1970-1994, when Berg went into bankruptcy. Wood treating on site for several years. Property now mostly vacant. The property was formerly used as a lumber mill and for associated activities, post and pole treating, and as a storage area for miscellaneous equipment, machine parts, vehicles, lumber, and sawdust piles. The property is part of a bankruptcy. A court appointed Bankruptcy Trustee for the Grantee, another Grantee, currently controls the property. The trustee sold the property to another Grantee, a former employee of the Berg Lumber Mill, who tried to continue running the business. However, the business failed and the trustee reclaimed the property. The lumber mill is now closed.
