Additional Property Attributes

The site contains one structurally unstable building previously used for storage. The building has asbestos siding on exterior and needs to be demolished for the new county jail project. A 2022 Phase I Environmental Site Assessment on the adjoining south property (201 N Jackson) indicated a vacant garage used for storage was located on this property. The unstable, vacant building contained asbestos in the Transite siding and the roof. Arsenic was found in the soil borings but was close to the Shelby County average background concentrations. Lead was identified in one boring over the residential Missouri Risk-Based Corrective Action (MRBCA) standard of 260 mg/kg but below the non-residential MRBCA standard. Shelby County Commission plans to build a new jail facility on site so the lead concentration in soil would not exceed the standard for the intended use.
