Additional Property Attributes

The Subject Property was first developed circa 1911 to operate as the Village of Herkimer Water Works Pumping and Electric Light Works Station. Several additions were made to the Subject Property main building and additional ancillary structures were added to the southern portion of the Subject Property between 1911 and 1969. An oil house, a railroad spur, and coal bins were identified on the Subject Property as areas of petroleum or chemical storage. The Subject Property was acquired by Homogeneous Metals Inc. and operated as a powdered metal alloy manufacturing plant from 1969 until 1982. The Subject Property has been vacant and unoccupied since 1982. Mercury impacted wood and debris were removed from the property between 1977 and 1978. In the 1980s, a 2,000-gallon fuel oil UST was closed and removed from the Subject Property in addition to the disposal of several PCB-containing capacitors and 10 yards of impacted soil. All on-site buildings were demolished in 2012 with the exception of a control building "within the dike" that was "abandoned by backfilling in place". Most of the foundations of the former buildings were removed
