Historical: This property was rebuilt in 1910 after a fire in 1909 destroyed the original wood structure that had served as a hotel with a retail first floor since the 1880s. That same fire destroyed 21 other buildings - the entire business district of Bramwell, WV. The fact that the Pence Hotel was the first building replaced after the fire indicates its importance to Bramwell. Salesmen of mining equipment stayed and did business with Bramwell's storied mine barons at the Pence Hotel. It is currently not occupied. Reuse: Tentative plans for apartments, a hostel hotel, a traditional hotel, and/or mixed-use retail for future incoming ATV development nearby.
