Additional Property Attributes

4/2/2025 Ohio EPA: The County was offered the adjacent parcel from the American Red Cross. That building was renovated and the Health Dept. moved into their new Wayne County Commissioners (WCC) now have this building sitting Idle. The Commissioners are trying to figure out what to do with the building that dates back to 1928. The City of Wooster just completed their comprehensive plan and have identified the area as a future arts district. WCC are trying to identify the best use for this parcel. They have had a request for the old building, but they have not shown any ability to fund any renovation. The Phase I Investigation determined that there was one REC, a machine shop and coal fuel structure on the western part of the property. The Phase I also determined that there may be asbestos-containing materials in the remaining building. The 2024 Phase II found arsenic above residential/unrestricted standards in soil. Levels may be within background, but further assessment needed if reused for residential purposes. No impacts to ground water identified.
