Additional Property Attributes

The subject property is a vacant, approximately 31-acre parcel of land located at the west end of Airport Drive in the City of Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi. The subject property has no address and has one small structure (shed) at an access gate on Airport Drive.
The subject property once housed the original airport hangar (1930s to 1980s). The site contained bomber pads for World War II era planes (1942 to 1947). The property is mostly cleared with grass and a dirt roadway running from the access gate from Airport Road and north to the previous location of the historical airport hangar, then northwest.
The subject property was depicted as undeveloped in a 1940 aerial photograph. An airport runway was observed on the subject property from 1952 to 1996 in aerial photographs and topographic maps. The City Directories first list the Municipal Airport in 1938, with the Hesler Noble Air Service listed in 1947-1948 and the Laurel Airport listed in 1955. There are no City Directory listings for the subject property from 1971 to present. The topographic maps depict an airport runway from 1964 to 1982. The 2015 and 2020 topographic maps do not depict and airport runway. The Chain of Title Report indicates the subject property was transferred from the City of Laurel to the Laurel Airport Authority via a Quit Claim Deed dated July 1, 1997. The occupant of the subject property was reported to be the Laurel Municipal Airport and the Hesler Nobel Field.
According to the topographic maps, aerial photographs and city directories, the adjacent properties first underwent development with construction of the golf course to the north starting in the 1966 aerial photograph. A building is first seen on the adjacent property along Hillcrest Drive in the 1991 aerial photograph.
