Additional Property Attributes

There is no evidence of development on the Site by or prior to 1888. By 1911, the Site was developed with a residential building in the northeast portion of the Site along Railroad Street. Three smaller sheds were present to the west of the dwelling. By 1932, the residential building and sheds had been removed and replaced by a new dwelling. The residential building had a small addition on the southeast side. The Site was cleared in 1999 following a fire that burned down the residential building. The Site is currently used as an overflow parking area for the northeastern adjoining automotive repair shop.

Adjoining and area properties of potential environmental concern include: 1) an automotive repair shop (Accurate Transmissions) at 42A Oakland Avenue (formerly a gasoline service station), 2) a former automotive repair shop (Perfection Auto Radiator) at 39 Oakland Avenue, approximately 160 feet to the north and 3) a former railroad line (now redeveloped as a rail trail) across Railroad Avenue to the east.

At 42A Oakland Avenue, no UST records exist for Accurate Transmissions/former gas station and no known releases have been reported. However, due to its close proximity there is potential for petroleum and/or hazardous materials from unknown releases from this off-site property to impact the Site. Further north at 39 Oakland Avenue, a reported release of lead, benzo(a)pyrene, and dibenzo(a,h)anthracene (PAH compounds) exceeding applicable MCP Method 1 Soil Standards; however, no groundwater impacts were reported and thus does not have the potential to impact the Site. To the east, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and metals associated with the incomplete combustion of coal by steam engines are commonly found in surficial and near surface soils in the vicinity of railroad right-of-ways. Surficial geology along the former railroad corridor and in close proximity to the Site is mapped as artificial fill material, which often contains anthropogenic materials such as brick, glass, coal, ash, and clinkers.
