Additional Property Attributes

The Family Service Lincoln Community Crops Program plans to use a portion of land owned by Belmont Baptist Church for a community garden. A Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) was completed for the property to assess shallow soils for the presence of metals. The proposed garden space is 14,250 square feet. For purposes of the Phase II ESA, the garden site was divided into four 47.5 foot by 75 foot cells; and five-point composite samples were collected from each cell at the following depths: 0-1 inch; 1-6 inches; 6-12 inches; 12-18 inches; 18-24 inches. Arsenic was detected above the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) Remediation Goals (RGs) for residential soil within each sample depth interval in all four cells; however, all samples in Cell 1 and Cell 2 were within the statistically derived natural background concentrations established by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). All samples collected within Cell 3 and Cell 4 were within the USGS established natural background concentrations except the sample collected at 12-18 inches below ground surface (bgs) at Cell 3, and 6-12- and 18-24 inches bgs at Cell 4. The arsenic concentration in Cell 3 was five standard deviations from the average background concentration; and the arsenic concentrations in Cell 4 were six standard deviations from the average background concentration. Because these concentrations did not exceed three times the average concentration and were detected across various depths, the environmental professional that completed the Phase II ESA concluded that these concentrations are also likely naturally occurring.
