Additional Property Attributes

The property has several vacant and dilapidated buildings, historically utilized as a lumber yard (1909-2009). The City of Petersburg Economic Development has been in possession of the property since August 22, 2011. The largest building is utilized by the Police Department for vehicle storage and a couple buildings in the northwestern portion are utilized for Fire Department training activities. The Roper Brothers' Lumber Company had been in possession of the property since September 26, 1989.
EPA performed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) at the Site in early May, 2022. The purpose of the Phase I ESA was to evaluate the property in alignment with the ASTM Standard E 1527-13 in connection with the Site. ASTM Standard E 1527-21 was also incorporated in these activities. Phase II investigation was initiated in October 2022 and completed November 2024. PAH, PFAS, and metals identified in soil and PAH, PFAS, metals and VOC identified in groundwater. Risk assessment proposed.
