Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The South Cle Elum Railyard was operated by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, and Pacific Railroad beginning in 1908 or 1909 as part of its transcontinental rail operations. The site was in operations until 1980, when the site was abandoned. Historically, the rail yard comprised approximately 50 acres, most of which are no longer part of the site, but under private ownership. Of the 50 acres, the Washigton State Parks and Recreation Commission owns approximately 12.5 acres, and the Cascade Rail Foundation has a 20-year operating agreement to manage the property. The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission purchased the property in 1999.
