Additional Property Attributes

The Former Chester Elementary School sits atop a high knoll in Chesterland, an underutilized and deteriorating eyesore for over 20 years. Chester Township did not have the means to complete this project without depleting a significant source of capital from their yearly budget funds for police, fire, facilities, etc. The township has established a bold schedule for the project and anticipates completion in October 2006. RLF funds were able to also address the building demolition required as part of the cleanup. PPF attached to QR 7, 4/1/06-6/30/06 Update 10/18/06: Asbestos Abatement is complete. 9/1/2007 Demolition is complete. 11/15/2007 Redevelopment activity greenspace creation is complete and report was received.

Former Use: The Property first developed as seminary school prior to 1850. The original building was demolished in 1925 following a fire the main building on site today was built in 1926 with additions in 1935 and 1955. The property was used as an elementary school until 1983 and was purchased by the Trustees from the West Geauga School District Board of Education in 1986. This property has been redeveloped into greenspace after remediation activities and demolition of the building.
