Additional Property Attributes

The former Hancock Wood Product Building is being renovated for use by the Menominee River Habitat for Humanity to be used as a resale store. They will sell used or new construction materials donated to the store. They hope to be open for business by February 2007. (PPF - Former Hancock Wood Products, 12-4-06)

Former Use: The property is all of four lots and part of a fifth in an industrial commercial section of the City of Kingsford. The main railroad line abuts the east side of the subject property. The property has a former wood handle manufacturing plant, with a sawdust hopper. The process included finishing the handles with lacquer or paint. Prior to the Wood Products facility, the property was a Ford Manufacturing warehouse and a vacant lot used for general storage. The property to the south was a manufactured gas plant in the early 1900s. The Bank acquired the property through foreclosure. Habitat for Humanity is acquiring the property to use as a Resale Store, where donated construction materials would be sold. The construction materials donated will range from excess supplies at construction processes to building materials removed during renovations or demolitions.
