Additional Property Attributes

Currently the City of Clay Center and the Clay County Sheriff would like to redevelop the subject site into an exercise pad for inmates of the Clay County Jail. As discussed in greater detail in the phase II report, if the building is to be removed the asbestos containing material, mercury switch in the thermostat, and light ballasts will need to be addressed. If redevelopment plans changed and residential use is intended, the the lead concentration of 721mg/kg detected in one surface soil will need to be addressed. (PPF - 07/21/2006)

Former Use: The subject property building was constructed circa 1900. From the property buildings construction to about 1930 the site was used as a photo shop and other various retail shops. Clay Center Cleaners was the active business at the property from circa 1930 to 1996. The cleaning business was owned and/or operated by various private individuals, most recently by Ms. Gloria Shearer. Since 1996, the subject site building has been vacant.
