Additional Property Attributes

A Phase I was completed and a Phase II was initiated under BF-97137801-1. A Supplemental Phase II was initiated under BF-97180301-0. The Supplemental Phase II will be completed under 2B-9611001-1. In May 2008, the former mill building was demolished under the direction of the EPAs Region 1 Emergency Planning and Response Branch EPRB. Construction and demolition debris was removed. In July 2008, approximately 750 tons of contaminated soil were excavated and transported off site. As of April 2009, the site is undergoing supplemental Phase II investigation.

Former Use: This site is a 3 acre triangular parcel that was constructed in the late 19th century. When the project was initiated there were 2 buildings present on the sitea multi-story mill building and a four bay garage. In October 2004, the former mill building experienced significant fire and water damage. Sections of the building had collapsed and much of the support structure was noticeably compromised. In May 2008, EPA's Emergency Response Branch demolished the former mill building, leaving the 4-bay garage structure. Records show that the site was originally a textile mill known as L. Pomeroys Sons Woolen Mill. In the early 1900s it was known as Helliwell Company Woolen Manufacturing. The mill operation ceased in the 1930s and the site was used as a paper storage building with an automobile garage and salvage yard. Automobile related activities including reclamation and storage continued through 1960s as A. Leo Nash Scrap Metal. Nash Realty Trust owned the site during the early and mid1980s before selling it to Ernest Baldasarre in the late 1980s. The site has reportedly been vacant since the early 1990s.
