Additional Property Attributes

The Urban Renewal Agency, a quasi-governmental entity tasked with doing urban revitalization and renewal projects by Austin City Council, owns this property and was referred to us by coalition partner Austin Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) to assist with the environmental assessment. Austin voters elected to create an Urban Renewal Agency in 1959 to eliminate slum and blighting influence within a designated area of the city.
This project is in a census tract (8.04) identified as disadvantaged in the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool (CEJST). Part of the property has a restaurant, office space, and the African American Cultural Center. The other part of the property, the southeastern portion, is undeveloped. A previous Phase II assessment identified elevated concentrations of TPH & PAH in the southeast portion of the property. The city plans to sell the undeveloped portion of the property and needs to include potential environmental issues in the Request for Proposals.
The FSP for this supplemental assessment was approved on March 15, 2022. Additional work was performed in April 2022, assessing the extent of these concentrations in soils and non-native materials. The materials were isolated to the south/southeast portion of the property. This information will be made available to respondents when considering their proposals for redevelopment.
