Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: By 1886, the property was the location of Goshen Creamery, which occupied an approximately 2000 square foot main building to which a 1,250 square foot building addition containing a steam laundry was added. The interior of the building is known to have contained an upright boiler and a pump and water well (possibly beneath the floor of the building). A boat house was located on the Millrace. By 1901, portions of the building had been demolished and the remaining portion was being used for storage of boxes. This building was in turn demolished prior to 1911, as well as the boat house, and replaced by a residence that remains in existence today. The building and boat house may have been demolished in response to damage associated with flooding in 1908 that reportedly was the worst in the first 150 years of Goshens history (from 1831 to 1981). The property 3 was used for residential purposes (i.e., one, two or three dwelling units) from 1911 through today. A small (approximately 300 square foot) office building was constructed along the northern edge of Site 3 sometime between 1926 and 1937 at which time Tyler Coal and Ice Co. was identified in city directory records as an occupant. This occupancy lasted through at least 1951. The building was demolished prior to 1969.
