Property Highlights

The property was owned by Connecticut Department of Transportation during construction of Interstate 95. The contamination apparently occurred during this period. The property was purchased from the DOT by Thomas Sheridan, but was not developed, and was later donated to Habitat for Humanity. Half of the one acre property was treated and found to be uncontaminated and two houses for low income families were built there. The half acre bordering Fitch Avenue was found to be contaminated and will be cleaned up by this grant. After cleanup, two houses will be built on the property and sold to low income families. Subsequently, taxes on the property will benefit the City of New London, which has a limited amount of taxable property within its boundaries. PPF - 7/31/07
