Additional Property Attributes

Land-of-Sky Regional Council (LOSRC), Asheville, NC has been awarded a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency for a demonstration project in environmental excellence design. LOSRC will use these grant funds to conduct a collegiate design competition as a riverfront brownfield demonstration project. This project will result in a conceptual development tool which goes beyond compliance and offers �out of the box�, innovative approaches to flood plain issues, stormwater management requirements, the use of green building designs, re-use of existing infrastructure, brownfield issues, erosion control, and other watershed concerns. Students will be asked to visit this site in Asheville, NC, meet with the developer and environmental professionals and submit a design for redevelopment of the 13 acre site. The proposed reuse of the site is a mixed-use, environmentally friendly, sustainable development which takes into account real environmental concerns and meets the regulatory requirements for erosion control, storm water management, flood plain development and brownfield compliance.
