Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Description: Currently the property is vacant and not in use. It is enclosed by a fence with a locked gate and covered by asphalt, grass and weeds, with some trees and heavy brush in the northern part of the property. The asphalt is both hard steam-rolled asphalt and a n area of excess asphalt material that appears to have been dumped but not steam-rolled. No evidence of USTs or ASTs exists. In the center of the asphalt where it was not steam-rolled, but loose a few oily/wet spots, approximately 4-inches in diameter, were observed. One of the spots was dug out to for visual inspection. The oily spot extended approximately 6-inches deep (the extent of the asphalt) and had a petroleum based odor. A small sample of the oily substance was taken and field screened using a PID, which measured a reading of 624ppm. The soil beneath the tar-like substance was wet and had the odor of sanitary waste. From the limited field investigation, it was not possible to determine if the substance is limited to these small areas or if it extends under the solid asphalt. It was also not possible to assess the wet soil because a larger portion of the asphalt would have to be removed to collect soil samples. Evidence of a REC on the property exists. A Phase II Assessment would be required to determine the extent and impact of the oily substance identified on the property. History: 1888-1919 - 2 apartments side by side 1950 - Present - Vacant 07/01/1949 - City of Boston forclosed on the property.
