Additional Property Attributes

Adjacent 191 Bowdoin St. gas station owner City of Boston was awarded an EPA Cleanup Grant. After cleanup we expect the two parcels will be assembled. Several suprises during cleanup. Asbestos removal costs were much higher than originally anticipated, additional UST found, asphalt shingles found buried from illegal dumping.

Former Use: Description: The property has a single story auto-garage on it, which has been unoccupied since September 2002 when the automotive repair and sales garage closed. The building is surrounded by pavement with cracks and a chain-link fence is on the south of the property adjacent to residential houses. Historical Uses: 1924-2002 - automotive-related service, salvage, maintenance and sales. RECs: 1)Historical use as various automotive services over seven decades, with the potential presence of an abandoned gasoline underground storage tank (UST) and a documented history of improper use and storage of petroleum products. 2)Soil results by others detected petroleum compounds exceeding regulatory Reportable Concentrations (RCs), constituting a release that had not been reported to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, within the timeframe stipulated under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (310 CMR 40.0000). 3)Historical use of the adjacent 191 Bowdoin Street property as a gasoline station (currently vacant) listed on the leaking underground storage tanks (LUST) database. (TRC is currently investigating 191 Bowdoin Street on behalf of DND.)
