Additional Property Attributes

The subject property has been operated as a scrap yard for more than 60 years and is slated for mixed commercial development with some public open space as part of the South Jefferson Redevelopment Area redevelopment plan. Input at public meeting indicates a desire to include mixed residential. Discussion with state VRP officials indicates that upper story residential unit development is feasible. PPF - Virginia Scrap Iron & Metal Company, Inc, 2/27/08 Sale of property for development slated for August 31, 2010. May be subject to change based on actual close-out date for work through a separate cleanup grant.

Former Use: The properties housed industrial operations including coal storage, building materials manufacturing and a lumber company prior to operation as a scrap yard from ~1940 to 2007. The property was acquired by City of Roanoke redvelopment and Housing Authority in June 2008.
