Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Property includes dry land, breakers built into Sandusky Bay, and part of a basin of water enclosed by the breakers. In total, the Property comprises approximately 11 acres including 5 acres of dry land and breakers, and 6 acres of water in the basin. History: September 15, 1835 � Ground broken at the Property for the Mad River and Lake Erie Railroad. Circa 1870 � Frederick and William Ohlemacher begin operating lime kilns at the Property. 1889 � The Ohlemacher Bros. company passes into the control of the Kelley Island Lime & Transport Company operated by Frederick�s son Fred W. Ohlemacher. Lime was sold to soap manufacturers, paper makers, and glass manufactures. Between 60 and 80 men were employed at the business. June 1924 � The plant is destroyed by a tornado. 1940s � Billman Boat House was located on the Property. Circa 1950 � American Legion Hall constructed; buildings for Lay Bros. Fisheries constructed. Circa 1955 � American Legion Hall becomes a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Hall until 1958. Circa 1955 � A �marine filling station� is located along the western boundary of the Property. 1961 � Lay Bros. Fisheries closes. Circa 1964 � Former VFW Hall occupied by Horizons Unlimited boat and marine supplies shop. 1968 � Former Lay Bros. building used as a plastics warehouse. Circa 1974 � Horizons Unlimited building becomes the Warren Johnson Boat Works repair shop. 1978 � Sandusky receives federal grant to construct the Battery Park Aquatic Complex and Surf�s Up wave pool. 2003 � Surf�s Up wave pool closes. January 2016 � Surf�s Up wave pool is demolished.
