Additional Property Attributes

The cleanup at this site is complete. A revised CAFO agreement for the facility was approved by Region 5 TSCA Section in December 2008. In December 2005 the United States Missile Defense Agency awarded Lockheed Martin a 149 million contract to develop a proto-type High-Altitude-Airship HAA. Due to the size and production space required to build the HAAs, the Airdock is the one of only a few facilities in the country capable of producing the airships. The Airdock project will retain 528 jobs and create approximately 93 new jobs. The jobs retained have an average wage of approximately 74,000 per year and the new jobs are expected to average 50,000 per year. The cleanup activities on the property and investment by Lockheed Martin will generate total tax revenues of over 1,000,000.

Former Use: In 1928, the Goodyear Zeppelin Co. constructed the Airdock facility to build lighter-than-air ships for the US Navy. Loral Defense Systems Loral purchased the Airdock and surrounding properties in 1987. Lockheed Martin acquired the property when it purchased Loral in 1996. The Summit County Port Authority took ownership of the property in January 2006 and now leases the facility to Lockheed Martin per the Building Lease Agreement dated January 1, 2006.
