Additional Property Attributes

This site is in need of a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment. The city of Auburn submitted an application to EPA Region 10 for assistance through the Targeted Brownfields Assessment TBA Program to conduct the Phase II. EPA has agreed to conduct the TBA and the TBA is in progress.

Former Use: The site was one of three gas stations located at a major rural intersection that was by-passed by freeway in 1970s. The gas stations were demolished and in 1994 this site was acquired by the city of Auburn in a foreclosure action when the owner failed to pay a utility tax assessment. Limited site assessment took place in the late 1990s that identified petroleum and benzene in soil and groundwater. The site has remained idle since then. The property is adjacent to important wetlands of upper Mill Creek and recently the city erected a Welcome to Auburn sign on the site.
