Additional Property Attributes

The City of Oklahoma City constructed a LEED certified Fire Station on the site. The construction started mid 2009. Remediation of the east side of the property related to oilfield waste is anticipated by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission & the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board. CERTIFICATE of REMEDIATION COMPLETION was issued by the OCC on 3/5/2010. Some contamination noted on the west side of the property at relative low levels and the source is undetermined. Recommendations have been made for further characterization. At completion of remediation construction of the firestation is projected to cost 2.9 million. Jobs created in the remediation and construction of this facility is estimated at 25.

Former Use: The property consists of open space and an 18,000 square foot metal warehouse constructed circa 1961. The property was developed prior to 1906 as a wood and brick yard. Other historic uses of the site include the manufacturing and compressing of illuminating gas, production of oil/gas, automobile parts warehouse, insulation company, grain storage, steel fabricating, and storage for horse carriages. The parcel with the metal building was owned by the Berry family until 2001, with numerous subesquent private owners. The adjacent parcel to the east has been under the ownership of the OKC Urban Renewal Authority since 1977.
