Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Historical data at the site indicates that the property was residential land from at least 1938 until approximately 1950, when a Tastee Freeze ice cream store was constructed on the site. The Tastee Freeze building was razed in 1965 and a gasoline service station was constructed on site. This station utilized three 6,000-gallon underground storage tanks for the storage of gasoline. A 300-gallon waste oil tank was also utilized. By 1977, the UST system(s) were no longer in use and the site continued solely as a tire sales and repair operation. In 1984, the gasoline station and UST system(s) were removed and the existing strip mall was constructed on site. City of Kalamazoo Assessor records indicate that from 1965 to 1982, the property was owned by Mr. Henry and Mrs. Michalina Koplewski. The Trust of Ms. Martha T. Psarras owned the property from 1982-1985 and Mr. Timothy Shank and Mr. George Elsener acquired the property in 1985. Mr. James and Mrs. Sarah Pelfresne acquired the property in January 2005. The Pelfresnes retained Superior Environmental to complete an environmental assessment of the property at that time and although the scope was limited and there are concerns with the quality of work, no contamination was found. On September 18, 2008, Consumers Credit Union acquired the property and has completed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment to meet the standards of all appropriate inquiry.
