Additional Property Attributes

This brownfields cleanup and redevelopment will be a LEED-certified, mixed use project with loft apartments, office space, first floor retail, and covered parking. The cost share from this loan is being provided through a City-fae loan, to replace windows that must be removed to remediate lead paint, in the amount of 79,000. On February 11, 2009, ABCA and development of the CIP clean-up planning activities began. The project encountered a delay due to the need for an easement on the east side to the parking lot as a requirement for Department of Economic Development DED to approve the Brownfields Tax Credit Application. Community meeting and presentations were given in July and information, including the ABCAs, is posted on the City of Springfield's Brownfields website: www.springfieldmo.gov/brownfields. Asbestos remediation is currently underway.

Former Use: The site was originally built as a wholesale hardware warehouse. Through the late 1800s and into the early 1900s the subject site was commercial. At some point, it was used as commercial space with a parking garage above. This is known as Springfield's first, and oldest, parking garage. The side facing Olive Street is the primary vehicular access point. For many years, the site has been vacant.
