Additional Property Attributes

Property is in the process of being redeveloped into mixed-use commercial space and affordable housing. Redevelopment estimated to be completed at the end of 2012.

Former Use: Based upon historic research of city directories and tax records, the site at 1200-06 East Jefferson was residential until 1926 when a one-story gasoline station with a concrete floor and grease pit was built at the northeast corner of 12th Avenue and East Jefferson Street. The address was 500 12th Avenue. The gas station passed through a number of private owners until the 1950s when it became primarily an auto repair facility. In the 1960s and 1970s it was used as a trailer rental office. Sometime after the early 1970s, this parcel was acquired by Seattle University for a parking lot. Seattle University sold it to the City of Seattle in 1990. In 1989, a site assessment was conducted that indicated there were underground storage tanks on the property. Available documents indicate these USTs were removed in late 1989 and the tank site was sampled, however the UST Removal Report is currently missing and data from the UST tank sites are not available. It is not known at this time when the buildings were removed. The lot was graveled over and used by Seattle Department of Engineering for a project staging area.
