Former Use: The bakery building as it is called used to heat all of the Main Street facing buildings on that same block in Newport City. The building still holds the former boiler in the basement and a smoke stack for the boiler next to the building. The boiler used wood, fuel oil and wood pellets in the past. In 1997 an 8,000 and 1,000 Fuel Oil UST was removed along with a small amount of contaminated soils. VT DEC has since closed the site.
