Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Property was developed with a residence, horse stables, printing shop, a coal house, and a storage tank by 1887. Between 1887 and 1907, the portion of the Property along West State Street was occupied by stables, and a tin shop and sausage factory were located along the northern Property boundary. Between 1907 and 1919, a drugstore warehouse and stores were located along the northern Property boundary. Between 1913 and 1929, the portion of the Property along West State Street was occupied by a sheet metal works pattern shop and a store occupied by various commercial businesses. By 1935, the former sheet metal shop building was used as a JC Penney warehouse. By 1945, the former store building along West State Street also was occupied by a JC Penney/Montgomery Ward warehouse. The buildings along West State Street were used as warehouses until 1958 when they were demolished. By 1902, the portion of the Property along West Michigan Street was developed with four stores. Between 1902 and 1959, the stores along West Michigan Street were occupied by numerous commercial businesses. By 1958, the stores along West Michigan Street also were demolished, and in 1959, the current commercial building was constructed on the Property. The commercial building was used as a JC Penney store until approximately 1986 when it was remodeled for use as an office supply store. The commercial building was used as an office supply store until it was vacated in 2006. The commercial building remained vacant in 2008.
