Property Highlights

The subject property is located in the northwest corner of the Superfund area (Southeast Rockford Groundwater Contamination Site). This site was added to the NPL on March 31, 1989 as a state-lead, federally funded Superfund site due to high levels of chlorinated solvents detected in residential and municipal wells over the course of 7-8 years of investigation. A full Phase I investigation could not be conducted because the site access was not granted.

Former Use: Rockford City Directory identified Imperial Furniture(1920 and 1933)and Home Laundry and Swiss Cleaners (1932 to 1939) at the subject property. In 1934, the Brearley Company used it for manufacturing bathroom scales. Counselor occupied the subject property from 1981 to 1998. Alpha Bag Group, a manufacturer of baghouse bags(1999), Ries Service Company (2001) and EZONE Inc. (2002) have occupied the site since 1998. The city directory did not have listing for the subject property since 2003. At present, the site is occupied by a vacant building prior used for manufacturing.
