Additional Property Attributes

Historic resources indicate that the Property was used primarily for residential purposes from at least 1894 until approximately 1922 when commercial structures were apparent. The Property has primarily been used for commercial purposes since at least 1922. Historical uses for the Property include a parking garage, battery company, used car dealership, furniture warehouse, garment factory, wallpaper, paint and oil store, tire service store, vending machine warehouse, auto repair garage, hotel, printing companies, filling station, paint company, bus station, dry cleaner, gas station, and theatre. The Property has been used as a multi-use facility for the arts since1970. The phase I found no definitive Recognized Environmental Conditions but recommended a phase II due to the extensive historical industrial and commercial activities surrounding the site and known nearby contamination.

Former Use: The building was first built in 1970; it functioned as the Mummers Theatre and other theater companies until the building closed in 1986. The Arts Council purchased the facility and renovated it in 1987. It is currently operational and is being reviewed for renovation.
