Additional Property Attributes

The subject property is associated with the Chromium Cleanup Partnership Remedial Investigation RI for Non-Residential Chromate Chemical Production Waste Sites being performed by PPG Industries, Inc. Under the RI, the subject property is titled Hudson County Chromate Site No. 132, Town and Country Linen Warehouse, NJDEP Identification No. G000008749. A Phase II Investigation conducted by NJDEP and an Interim Remedial Measure Investigation conducted by PPG Industries Inc. have also been performed on the property to address chromium contamination.

Former Use: Vacant, mostly paved lot improved with a one-story concrete block building ca 1970. The building is deteriorating, with debris piles blocking all access ways except the northern loading dock. The northern loading dock area is insecurely boarded and shows signs of trespassing. The subject property is fenced to the east, south, and west. The Morris Canal previously traversed northeast/southwest along the eastern property boundary the canal was backfilled by 1940. Residences and an automobile salvage yard located on the site were removed by the mid to late-1960s. Past ownership includes: Newport City Development Company & Newport Centre and Lawrence Construction Company.
