Additional Property Attributes

A Phase II investigation was conducted and the Phase II ESA report has been submitted to U.S. EPA and the HANNAHVILLE INDIAN COMMUNITY Department of Planning and Evaluation-Environmental Protection Program N14911 Hannahville B-1 Road Wilson, Michigan 49896 using Region V TBA funds.

Former Use: The Site is located in a generally commercial-residential area surrounded by undeveloped wooded areas. Although prior investigations focused on a larger area, the TBA/Phase II ESA focused on two parcels totaling 14.87 acres that are owned by HIC. The Site is bordered to the east by Little Bay de Noc, a bay of Lake Michigan. Although several buildings were present during the initial assessment activities, the West North and West South buildings were removed as part of the 2011 removal action. The Center East building (also labeled clarifying house from historical documents) has been recently demolished, but building debris remains on-Site. Two other buildings remain intact. One was designated Center West in prior reports and the other was located further east and was labeled Leach House from historical documents. The surface cover at the areas of the Site not covered by building and building debris consists of dirt, grass, and wooded areas along with gravel pathways. Sanborn maps were obtained during the 2009 site assessment activities to evaluate historical property use. Based on the maps available, the following operations/purposes were indicated on the HIC property: 1913: Michigan Tanning and Extract Company 1921: Michigan Tanning and Extract Company 1929: Formerly Michigan Tanning and Extract Company, Universal Cinder Products Company 1950: Wells Crate and Lumber Company 1960: Early American Fence Company
