Additional Property Attributes

The 32 acre site consists of open land with a few dirt roads and dirt bike trails. The site is mainly vegetated with grass and a few scattered trees. The western portion of the site consists of a large hill that slopes steeply to the east. The eastern portion of the property, where the refinery was located, is relativelyflat with a gentle slope to the east-southeast.The former crude oil refinery was built in 1940 and has been abandoned since the early 1970's.

The eastern portion of the property, where the refinery is located, is relatively flat with a gentle slope to the east-southeast. The Petroleum Refining Company, a subsidiary of Pacific National Oils was built in 1940 for the purpose of refining crude oil obtained fromt he nearby Kevin-Sunburst oil field northwest of Shelby, MT. The refinery was designed to be a small 500-barrel capacity operation. It operated sporatically until the 1970's when it was abandoned. Several of the refinery structures were demolished and removed in 1995.
