Additional Property Attributes

The Site building was reportedly constructed in the late 1800s and the basic structure of the building has not changed since then. Major renovations occurred between 1959 and 1963, when Scottys Fashions began operation, including the addition of the second floor in the former engine house and placement of cement ground floors. The structure is currently divided into a showroom, two garages, a boiler room, and a cutting room. Premier Granite most recently operated in the eastern half of the building, but the property was not used or occupied as of November 2012. The majority of the property is landscaped with lawn. There are outcrops of rock in the wooded areas on the western sections of the property which are potentially glacial debris. There is an elevated former rail siding north of the building along the property boundary, but rails and ties are no longer present. .The planned reuse of the property is a fully functional YMCA.

Former Use: The Site is located at 315 W. Pennsylvania Avenue in Pen Argyl, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. The Site is an irregularly shaped 11-acre parcel accessed from W. Pennsylvania Avenue, and includes a two-story structure of approximately 30,000 square feet. The previous owners (Tighe and Neil Scott) donated 8.7262 acres of the Site, including the existing building, to the YMCA (the current owner), with the intended use for child daycare, day camps, and related activities. The majority of the Site is landscaped grass, with a wooded area covering the southwest portion of the site, the existing building, and the adjoining driveway and parking areas. Figure 2 shows historical site features by overlaying a Sanborn map on an aerial photograph. The Site is bordered on the north by West Babbitt Ave., to the east by N. Heller Ave, and to the south by residential homes along W. Pennsylvania Ave. Manufacturing facilities are present north of the Site opposite Babbitt Ave. The remainder of the surrounding properties is primarily residential or light commercial.
