Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Site has been utilized as a commercial, multi-tenant facility, dating back to at least 1925 based on Sanborn Maps obtained from an adjacent assessment property. Historically, the Site operations have included, but are not limited to, light retail, restaurants, auto repair, a tin shop and a series of laundromats. The current site owner is Christ Missionary Baptist Church. Historical site owners include Be-Spring Enterprises 1981-1998 and Northwestern Development Company 1975-1981.

In 2023, U.S. EPA tasked START under contract 68-HE-0519-D0005, Task Order Line Item No. F0107-0001EI233 to support the City of Indianapolis with a Targeted Brownfields Assessment. The environmental assessment findings will be used to determine how to proceed in the redevelopment of the property. Volatile organic compounds were detected in groundwater at concentrations exceeding the IDEM R2 Published levels. in addition VOCs were detected in soil gas samples at concentrations exceeding IDEM R2 Published Levels. Arsenic and PAHs were detected in soil samples at concentrations exceeding IDEM R2 Published levels.
