Additional Property Attributes

The City's Brownfield Program completed an extensive Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) which included the removal and closure of 3 underground storage tanks (USTs) in 2016. The Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI) purchased the property for $125,000 (after a May 2015 Phase I ESA performed as part of their due diligence). Historically a gas station operated on the site. The 2,500 square foot commercial building on the property was demolished for $20,000 by ABI in conjunction with the UST removal and closure. A no-further action letter was received on April 22, 2026, from the GAEPD UST Management Program. The property is adjacent to the 3-mile BeltLine Westside Trail.

The site, located at 1385 Ralph David Abernathy, has been developed as an RDA Access Point that provides a new entry point to the Westside Trail with ramp and stair access, protected crossing across RDA, and bicycle lanes. Pedestrians will also benefit from widened sidewalks and newly planted trees. The Westside Trail, buzzing with life and art, is a place for recreation and connection. The access point increases safety and makes the Westside Trail more accessible for those who frequent this segment of the Beltline.

Former Use: The subject property was previously developed as a gasoline service station and/or auto repair shop as early as the 1920s.
