Additional Property Attributes

The property was acquired by the Town of Northfield through a tax title proceeding. The former owner had used the property to store junked cars, trailers and assorted trash for years. The Town fenced off the site to prohibit future dumping. The Phase I noted that based on municipal records, solvents and oils stored improperly were observed on the site. The site is listed as a dumping ground in the Massachusetts Solid Waste Facility database. Observations in the Phase I were from the right-of-way and did not cover the entirety of the site. A Phase II subsurface investigation was recommended. There was insufficient funds remaining in the Agreement to complete a Phase II. As a result, the Phase II was completed using resources from this Agreement and a contribution from the Town of Northfield. The Town will explore options for cleaning up the property, so that the site may be returned to productive use.
