Additional Property Attributes

The site is owned by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan. The Tribe plans to build a cultural welcome center for the area, the Tribe currently has a casino a few miles south of the site. The Tribe is currently expanding the casino and adding a hotel.

Former Use: The property was residential/agricultural land from at least 1938 to 1965 and was developed in the 1960s as a Marathon Truck Stop. In 1997, the property became vacant. Underground storage tanks were operated at the site, and soil contamination from petroleum hydrocarbons was detected. A Phase II ESA performed in 2018 indicated that the site meets the definition of a facility. A geophysical survey was performed and underground storage tanks were not identified. The site's Due Care Plan prepared in 2007 should be updated to include the 2018 ESA findings.
