Additional Property Attributes

The sites includes an approximately 107.5 acre tract of land that contains building foundations of approximately 23 buildings razed in 2017. Approximately 7 buildings are still present on site but will not be included in future redevelopment activities. Brevard County anticipates redeveloping the property as a light industrial business park.

Former Use: The site is located at 855 Camp Road in Cocoa, Brevard County, Florida. and is the location of the Former State Correction Facility which operated from 1975 to 2012. The site utilized both aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) and underground storage tanks (USTs) containing fuel oil. The site also used a fuel oil piping system to heat the facility. During the years of operation, leaks and spills were reported from the fuel tanks. In 1987, the fuel oil piping system was abandoned in place and the site switched to natural gas to heal the facility. From 1992 to 1993, the USTs were removed from the site. In 2016, the ASTs were removed from the site. The property is now owned by Brevard County. Residential properties and a correction facility surround the site. VOCs, SVOCs, BaP, TPH, PCP and arsenic are contaminants of concern and are most likely related to the possible presence of the fuel oil lines still in place at the site.
