Additional Property Attributes

The site is approximately 1.2 acres with an approximately 19,700 SF historic school building along with ancillary structures including multiple mobile classrooms, minor storage buildings and some old playground equipment. Sanborn maps from 1907 indicate a tenement house was once located on the site, but by 1913, this structure was noted as old and abandoned. A 1921 Sanborn map indicates a woodworking facility (noted as vacant) may have been located on the site just prior to school construction in 1926.

Former Use: Jefferson School, completed in 1926 and expanded in 1952, provided primary and secondary education for African American students.

A feasibility study was completed in 2021 to investigate reuse as a multi-family residence. Assessments determined building materials contain asbestos and lead-based paint.
