Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Old Federal Courthouse Complex was formerly a federal courthouse, a post office, school public library, Lafayette Police Annex, and Acadiana Open Channel Community Media center. The complex has been vacant for over two decades, creating blight on a key corner of the Lafayette downtown area. The City of Lafayette purchased the site from the federal government in 2001 and has been largely vacant since that time. In 2019, the City issued an RFP for developer proposals to redevelop the site and selected the team of Place de Lafayette and Weinstein Nelson Developers. The redevelopment will include 25,000 square feet of commercial space and 68 market rate housing units, and contribute to the revitalization of the downtown Lafayette corridor. Redevelopment of the property, now call The Municipal, started in 2020 but was hindered by COVID. As of December 2021, the redevelopment was nearing completion with units available for pre-leasing for move-in in March 2022.
