Additional Property Attributes

The property (1.5-acres) contains the old municipal swimming pool, patio areas, basketball court, and locker rooms which have been vacant for 20 years. The structures are in disrepair. The NMED Brownfields Program has been working with the Village of Pecos since 2018 when staff met the Mayor at an outreach event. NMED funded the Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (December 18, 2020 and February 28, 2024). Asbestos is present in the roofing and pipe insulation and old pool chemicals are stockpiled in the structure. NMED, KSU-TAB, and the Mayor hosted a community visioning meeting on March 20, 2024 to get community input on the future of the project. The Community Relations Plan, Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives, and Cleanup Plan have been completed and the asbestos abatement is scheduled to occur in November 2024 (FFY2025) using 128(a) Infrastructure "direct cleanup" funding. Cleanup data will be entered when the work is completed.
