Additional Property Attributes

The Keating Junior High School was developed for residential purposes by at least 1905, when three (3) residential dwellings were present along East Orman Avenue. The residential dwellings were razed by 1927, when the property was redeveloped with the Central Junior High School/Keating Junior High School. Subsequent structural additions to the school occurred in 1929 and in the late 1950s and/or early 1960s. Keating Junior Hight School operated as a public school from the late 1920s to 1982, when it began operation as the District 60 Keating Education Center. The Education Center closed in 2009, and the property has remained vacant since. The auxiliary gym, which was the subject of the addition and contains no historical significance, will be demolished.
The current building will be renovated. Specifically, the existing auditorium will become a community theater, and the remainder of the school will become apartments.
