Additional Property Attributes

EPA tasked START under Task Order-Task Order Line Item Number (TO-TOLIN) F0107-0001EE215 to complete a Phase I and Phase II ESA. The subject property totals 10.06 acres and contains vacant, vegetated land in Martin, Watson Township, Allegan County, Michigan. Based on historical documentation, the subject property operated as a landfill from at least the early 1970s to the mid-1980s. The landfill is now capped and no longer active. In addition, a Phase II ESA was performed in 2019 that included sampling for per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS), which were detected in groundwater samples at a maximum total concentration of 474 parts per trillion (ppt), which exceeds the EGLE Residential and Nonresidential Drinking Water Criteria of 70 ppt. Soil and groundwater sampling was conducted and arsenic, lead, and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances were detected in the soil at concentrations exceeding the Michigan Department of Environment, Great lakes, and Energy criteria.
