Additional Property Attributes

The Recreation Center sits on an 0.6 acre parcel and the structure consists of a 15,382 square foot recreation center constructed in the late 1960s. The Recreation Center contains 17 total rooms, including, offices, meeting spaces, a commercial kitchen, and an eight-lane bowling alley. It has been vacant since 2008. The Carrizozo Recreation Center was used by the community until 2008 when concerns about asbestos and leadpaint forced the Town to close the facility. In 2015, Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan money was procured to construct a new roof on the building and to install new restrooms to keep the structure from deteriorating. Carrizozo has a population of 900 people and there is nowhere in town for the community to
gather. The library can only accommodate 30 people. Carrizozo desperately needs a place for residents and visitors to go, not only for recreation, education, meetings and local events, but in case of emergencies and disasters such as the recent forest fires in Lincoln County.
