Additional Property Attributes

The historic Ming Theater was built in 1880. It has been renovated multiple times and has been owned by the Consistory Shrine Temple Association (Algerian Shriners) for over 80 years. The Shriners have operated out of the Ming Theater and the neighboring Light & Traction Building using them as their headquarters and gathering place. As the membership of the Shriners has diminished, they have started looking for suitable redevelopment opportunities of these two historic structures. DEQ was asked to perform a Phase I & II to help the Shriners determine what hazardous building materails might hinder the reuse/redevelopment of their buildings. Upon completion of the Phase I &II, the Helena Symphony approached the Shriners and DEQ with interest in acquiring the properties to use as a small performance venue and serve as their permanent offices. DEQ in partnership with Montana Business Assistance Connection (local economic development organization) assisted the Helena Symphony by providing a Preliminary Architectural Report and reuse Feasibility Study to help the Symphony decide if acquiring the buildings would be a financially viable alternative.
